Life Satisfaction

Endless journey of life and as a traveller one often seeks to know the value of life experiences one has had. In moments of reflection, some decisions appear wiser than the rest. Some mere lessons, and rest just passing phases. What then is a life truly lived? What are the experiences that help one reach a point where satisfied life becomes a phrase one can use?

Take a deep breath and ask yourself, what satisfaction to you is? The kind of experiences or a state of being that is satisfying for one individual may not be so for the other. There are people out there who have to struggle each day to survive, yet they seem satisfied after the day’s meal. On the other hand, we see people who cannot spare a smile in spite of having being blessed with comfort. Surprising, isn’t it? But if we try to understand the aspects that make people who they are then we can make sense of what adds meaning to their life. Life satisfaction cannot be measured using one scale. It requires looking at life from perspective of the living being.

The ‘gold standards’ exist and what gold to one is, may not be so to the other. Perhaps not everyone chases gold, some prefer platinum. At the surface level, it is surely one of my PJs but I mean a thing here. I wish to imply how life satisfaction as a concept exists, but what satisfaction means to different individuals, differs. What makes them satisfied, differs. The answers to most questions are found on how you perceive elements. The meaning you add to a stimulus makes it meaningful and significant. Likewise, how you attribute life events and life in its totality gives an impression to life lived as satisfied or unsatisfied. But I believe it isn’t only about aspirations fulfilled. Life is more than owning your own apartment, driving your dream car, travelling the world and relishing the best of wines. This surely gives goosebumps and makes a priority to most of us if we are on same page. However, life is also found in the walk you take with your dog, the walk down the aisle on a special day, finding a soulmate, hot chocolate on a winter evening, black coffee and great book, biryani for lunch, the first breath after having climbed the hill, having people to count on and the sound sleep after a day’s work.

It is a thread of thoughts, emotions and actions that forms experiences and memories and add color to the picture of life. If you were to form an image of your life, what colors from the palette will you add? What forms will you allow your life to take? How bigger the view be? What details will you focus on? A series of questions you can ask yourself and reveal yourself to you.

As you are leading your life, make choices that add meaning to your existence. Seek experiences that will make you feel fulfilled as you proceed on life’s path. Happiness, success, kindness, love, adventure, travel, reading, passionate work…each of what matters to you contributes to your life satisfaction.

By choosing to live today, you can take the honor of having lived a life you loved and the one you truly cherished.

With love, J.

Love...

Love; one of the purest and precious emotions mankind feels. As I start writing (typing will be an apt word here) about love, I have a smile on my face and I wish to pour my heart into this blog. It becomes easier for humans like you and me to assume that others are more fortunate when it comes to love. But a subtle touch of reality and believe me; everybody has to go through phases of love and no love. Yet, love prevails. What kind of love am I talking about? There are number of labels that can be attached to different kinds of love. To make it simple, considered here is love that holds two individuals in a romantic relationship and love in general which bonds two individuals who aren't dating.  Nelson Mandela said, "Love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite." If one is to reflect; didn't we take time and reasons to hate? While, love happens; and there need not be reasons to feel it.  There are several theories of love. Sternberg's triangular...

Commitment & Vulnerability

There are waves around me and you too are a part of some ocean. One need not be in the actual waters but the waves hit. The waves of competition, pressure, procrastination, boredom, lack of happiness, doubts, trust issues, unfulfilled expectations, lack of communication and lost courage. These all are the waves that affect us negatively. But look into the wider sea and you will see the waves of strength, courage, resilience, happiness, success and well-being. Get into the boat of self-confidence and drive by efforts. That's pretty much you need to get started!  Commitment and Vulnerability may seem like poles that seldom meet. But here I present them as sides of one coin. Dictionary definition of Commitment says; its a promise to be loyal to someone or something. While Vulnerability is defined as the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. I believe in two forms of commitment & vulnerability; to s...

Trust

Do we know some of the delicate things/aspects that are still one of the strongest? Ironically, you will come up with a list of such. The end of your list marks the beginning of this blog.  Trust; is one such element associated with living organisms that is delicate but has so much power when preserved. Each one faces a choice: to trust or not? One makes a choice whether they want to trust another being. Trusting a gut or trusting logic. Trusting because there are reasons to or trust because you heard your intuition signal you. Trust is what precedes and follows these choices. For when you have made a choice to trust, it is also about making the same choice over and over again, until there are red flags waving at you to not trust the same person/process anymore. Trust is confiding in others, to rely on them. It is about how much dependability in them you choose to invest. Trust is an important element in most relationships; whether they are personal, social or professional. It is ...
