Life Satisfaction

Endless journey of life and as a traveller one often seeks to know the value of life experiences one has had. In moments of reflection, some decisions appear wiser than the rest. Some mere lessons, and rest just passing phases. What then is a life truly lived? What are the experiences that help one reach a point where satisfied life becomes a phrase one can use?

Take a deep breath and ask yourself, what satisfaction to you is? The kind of experiences or a state of being that is satisfying for one individual may not be so for the other. There are people out there who have to struggle each day to survive, yet they seem satisfied after the day’s meal. On the other hand, we see people who cannot spare a smile in spite of having being blessed with comfort. Surprising, isn’t it? But if we try to understand the aspects that make people who they are then we can make sense of what adds meaning to their life. Life satisfaction cannot be measured using one scale. It requires looking at life from perspective of the living being.

The ‘gold standards’ exist and what gold to one is, may not be so to the other. Perhaps not everyone chases gold, some prefer platinum. At the surface level, it is surely one of my PJs but I mean a thing here. I wish to imply how life satisfaction as a concept exists, but what satisfaction means to different individuals, differs. What makes them satisfied, differs. The answers to most questions are found on how you perceive elements. The meaning you add to a stimulus makes it meaningful and significant. Likewise, how you attribute life events and life in its totality gives an impression to life lived as satisfied or unsatisfied. But I believe it isn’t only about aspirations fulfilled. Life is more than owning your own apartment, driving your dream car, travelling the world and relishing the best of wines. This surely gives goosebumps and makes a priority to most of us if we are on same page. However, life is also found in the walk you take with your dog, the walk down the aisle on a special day, finding a soulmate, hot chocolate on a winter evening, black coffee and great book, biryani for lunch, the first breath after having climbed the hill, having people to count on and the sound sleep after a day’s work.

It is a thread of thoughts, emotions and actions that forms experiences and memories and add color to the picture of life. If you were to form an image of your life, what colors from the palette will you add? What forms will you allow your life to take? How bigger the view be? What details will you focus on? A series of questions you can ask yourself and reveal yourself to you.

As you are leading your life, make choices that add meaning to your existence. Seek experiences that will make you feel fulfilled as you proceed on life’s path. Happiness, success, kindness, love, adventure, travel, reading, passionate work…each of what matters to you contributes to your life satisfaction.

By choosing to live today, you can take the honor of having lived a life you loved and the one you truly cherished.

With love, J.

The Men & The Gentlemen

Today, 19th of November is observed as International Men’s Day. To begin with, warm wishes to all the men out there who are reading this. Also, to women who are lucky to be associated with men that make this world a better place.  We talk about equality, and perhaps it is only applicable when its about human rights and wages. The very fact of human existence originates in differences that unite. Recreation, involves two genders and what combination results is also either of two genders. Among the X and Y, the one ‘X/Y’ changes the game. From physical features to social norm, reality differs for both genders. Everything in between that includes experiences, benefits, disadvantages, roles, responsibility are shaped by what beliefs constitute themselves and their surroundings. The psychological characteristics of men and women differ too. When tested empirically, men were found to be high on certain domains whereas women had high scores on other domains. There were instances where bot...

Love...

Love; one of the purest and precious emotions mankind feels. As I start writing (typing will be an apt word here) about love, I have a smile on my face and I wish to pour my heart into this blog. It becomes easier for humans like you and me to assume that others are more fortunate when it comes to love. But a subtle touch of reality and believe me; everybody has to go through phases of love and no love. Yet, love prevails. What kind of love am I talking about? There are number of labels that can be attached to different kinds of love. To make it simple, considered here is love that holds two individuals in a romantic relationship and love in general which bonds two individuals who aren't dating.  Nelson Mandela said, "Love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite." If one is to reflect; didn't we take time and reasons to hate? While, love happens; and there need not be reasons to feel it.  There are several theories of love. Sternberg's triangular...

Knowing Thy Self

Take a memory tour from genesis to existence and come back again to the moment you are now breathing in. If I ask you : Have you ever asked yourself 'Do I Know Myself?' the answers will vary, because while most people are curious in knowing themselves, a lot more aren't. It is okay to be in either group. Believe me, its never too late to get to know your self and no earlier time is too early. Knowing thy (your) self is a process and it cannot be hurried. Taking one's own time, one aspect at a time, one characteristic that you will define yourself with... a little more of deeper diving into your core, to know yourself more! This blog will not help you in knowing yourself. Answer to 'why?' is found in the mirror. The individual there is the one who knows yourself more than anyone else. However, I'm writing this because I wish to encourage you to take this journey with Your Self.  Every process begins with a step; here's the first one I would like ...
